## Multifunction antennas must operate reliably across many frequency bands despite interference.

To ensure that every antenna meets the required signal quality and functionality, the end-of-line tester (EOLT) checks the RF performance and relevant diagnostic functions with cycle times as short as approximately 30 seconds. In addition, a mechanical test ensures that the contacts, assembly, and workmanship consistently meet the specifications. Sensors check the connector and verify that the test item is properly assembled.

## Challenges and Concept

Multifunction antennas in modern motor vehicles combine numerous communication and reception technologies into a single assembly. They must reliably process radio signals, navigation systems, cellular, and satellite signals—regardless of external factors such as vehicle movement, electromagnetic interference, or different frequency ranges. Consequently, the requirements for a reproducible and precise end-of-line test are extremely high. To address these challenges, MCD Elektronik developed an automated end-of-line test (EOLT) system that combines electrical, high-frequency, and mechanical tests into a single test sequence. A specially developed helical antenna for signal stimulation, an RF-tight adapter, and pneumatically controlled high-frequency contacting enable reliable testing across the entire relevant frequency range. The concept is complemented by MCD’s TestManager CE and DatenManager testing software, MCD Elektronik’s control technology, and complete documentation of all test results for seamless traceability.

## Test Methods Used and Results

   ![](https://mcd.site team.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Group_30131.svg)

The end-of-line test system fully automatically tests the electrical, high-frequency, and mechanical functions of the multifunction antenna. The scope of testing includes current and voltage measurements, frequency tests across the entire relevant frequency range, and signal transmission tests for radio, navigation, satellite, and cellular signals. These are supplemented by mechanical tests and verification of the diagnostic and switching functions. All test results are automatically recorded and documented. As a result, the test system ensures high process reliability, reproducible measurement results, and complete traceability in series production.
