## Our individual testers and test lines reliably test modern infotainment systems as complex, integrated systems.

Infotainment systems combine functions such as audio, navigation, connectivity, and driver assistance into a single device, which places high demands on testing equipment.

Electrical functional tests (FCT) are used to evaluate the basic electrical and functional characteristics of the device under test. MCD’s functional test systems enable realistic, parallel testing of all relevant components and interfaces of a device under test. This allows electrical parameters, communication interfaces, and audio and system functions to be simultaneously tested and evaluated under real-world conditions.

## Challenges and Concept

Our individual testers and test lines are used to comprehensively test infotainment systems for functionality and quality. The focus is on electronic components as well as haptic, visual, and functional characteristics. Today’s systems combine numerous functions—such as radio, CD/DVD, navigation, hands-free calling, and driver assistance—into a single device. The demands placed on their interaction are correspondingly high.

The FCT systems developed by MCD Elektronik are designed to test relevant device functions and interfaces under reproducible, real-world conditions. The test systems measure electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and frequency; analyze audio signals; and verify USB, Bluetooth, and other communication interfaces. This ensures that the system components interact flawlessly. Thanks to the scalable hardware and software architecture, test sequences, measurement modules, and interfaces can be flexibly adapted to different product variants as well as future testing requirements.

## Scope of Testing and Functionality

   ![](https://mcd.site team.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/FCT-infotainment-testsystem-003_mcd-1024x683.png) ![](https://mcd.site team.de/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Group_30131.svg)

Our test systems enable the functional testing of infotainment systems to be efficiently parallelized. This allows multiple functions and components to be tested simultaneously under realistic conditions. Modern systems integrate numerous modules—such as audio, navigation, communication, and driver assistance—whose interaction must be reliably validated.

Parallel testing enables the early detection of interactions between individual system functions. This process takes electrical parameters into account as well as the validation of communication interfaces and audio and signal paths. Thanks to the modular design of the test systems, different test objects can be flexibly integrated, and future requirements can be easily accommodated.

## Test Methods Used and Results

MCD Elektronik’s modular system architecture enables the expansion and adaptation of existing test systems to meet specific needs. Measurement modules, interfaces, test object holders, and test sequences can be specifically configured for new product variants or changing requirements. As a result, the systems remain scalable over the long term and can be cost-effectively adapted for future testing tasks. Testing multiple test objects in parallel further reduces the total cycle time, increases throughput, and boosts efficiency in the production process.

## FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

### FAQS

What does FCT mean in the context of infotainment systems?

FCT (Functional Circuit Test) refers to the comprehensive functional testing of infotainment systems. This process involves testing not only individual electronic components but also the entire system—including audio, communication, navigation, and control functions—under realistic conditions.

Which functions are tested in the FCT?

As part of the FCT, all relevant system functions are tested, including audio (e.g., radio, speakers, signal processing), navigation, communication interfaces (Bluetooth, USB, Wi-Fi, CAN, BroadR-Reach), as well as driver assistance and control elements.

Why is a parallel functional test important?

Infotainment systems consist of many interconnected modules. Parallel testing makes it possible to identify interactions between these functions at an early stage and to efficiently simulate realistic usage scenarios. This reduces testing time and improves product quality.

Which interfaces can be tested?

Our FCT systems support a wide range of interfaces, including USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, CAN, RS-232, and BroadR-Reach. This enables comprehensive validation of modern communication and vehicle networks.

What are the advantages of the modular design of the test systems?

The modular design allows for flexible adaptation to different test specimens and requirements. Systems can be quickly expanded or reconfigured to accommodate both new product variants and future technologies.

Can complete infotainment systems also be tested?

Yes. Our test systems are specifically designed for end-of-line testing of complete infotainment systems. The system is tested from the user’s perspective to best simulate real-world use.

How does the FCT contribute to quality assurance?

Comprehensive functional and interface testing allows errors to be detected early on. This reduces rework, improves production quality, and ensures that all systems function reliably in the vehicle.

Is the test system scalable to meet future requirements?

Yes. Thanks to their modular architecture, the systems can be adapted at any time to accommodate new product variants, additional features, or new communication standards.

What role does automation play in the testing process?

Depending on the requirements, the test systems can be operated manually, semi-automatically, or fully automatically, including the integration of robotic cells for efficient and reproducible testing processes.
