FUNCTIONAL TEST SYSTEMS

Functional tests replicate defined operating conditions and evaluate the responses of the test specimen. Control signals, measurement acquisition, communication, and output signals are combined into a comprehensive functional test.

The test specimen is deliberately subjected to the input parameters and operating conditions required for the respective function.

FUNCTIONAL TESTS
FUNCTIONAL TESTS

A functional test, or FKT for short, checks not only whether an electronic product is physically constructed correctly, but also whether it actually operates as intended under defined conditions. To do this, the device under test is subjected to voltages, signals, commands, or load conditions. The resulting responses—such as measured values, communication signals, states, or output signals—are recorded and compared with target values or specified limits. In electronics manufacturing, functional testing is primarily used to detect defects early on, before assemblies are further processed, integrated into final products, or shipped. Typical test objects include printed circuit boards, control units, embedded systems, communication modules, infotainment components, and industrial electronics. Functional tests can be used both in development and for sampling, as well as in mass production and for final inspection.
TYPICAL TESTING METHODS AND CONCEPTS
TYPICAL TESTING METHODS AND CONCEPTS
FKT systems can be configured in various ways depending on the test object, test depth, quantity, and degree of automation. Options include manual test stations, semi-automatic stations, systems with interchangeable adapters, multiple test stations, or automatable test systems for mass production.
Depending on the application, MCD Elektronik develops manual test stations, semi-automatic stations, systems with interchangeable adapters, multiple test stations, or automatable test systems for mass production.
Typical test tasks include current and voltage measurements, digital and analog signal testing, communication and interface tests, sensor and actuator simulations, flash and programming processes, as well as audio, video, or display tests. The focus is on reliably contacting defined test points via customer-specific needle bed adapters and contacts, as well as on the targeted stimulation of the assembly. To this end, digital and analog input signals, loads, sensor states, and voltage interruptions are simulated, and the resulting system responses are measured and evaluated.
MCD Elektronik views the functional tester as a complete system in which test adapters, measurement technology, software, mechanics, data connectivity, and the user interface are precisely coordinated.
